# Geolocation guides

How to scope PredictHQ queries to the places your business cares about.

The recommended pattern is one setup step: create a [Saved Location](/api/saved-locations/overview.md) from a lat/lon origin and let Predicted Impact Area calculate the boundary where events actually affect that location - then reference the `location_id` everywhere. The guides in this section cover the underlying mechanics when you need them: [searching by location](/getting-started/guides/geolocation-guides/searching-by-location.md), [place hierarchies](/getting-started/guides/geolocation-guides/understanding-place-hierarchies.md), [polygons](/getting-started/guides/geolocation-guides/working-with-polygons.md), and [joining events with Placekey](/getting-started/guides/geolocation-guides/join-events-using-placekey.md).

Avoid hand-picked fixed radii - they include irrelevant events and miss relevant ones. See the [overview](/getting-started/guides/geolocation-guides/overview.md) for how the location methods compare.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.predicthq.com/getting-started/guides/geolocation-guides.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
